THE JOURNEY

STARTING OF THIS VENTURE
After spending 18 years abroad, Kalyani Menon returned to Thrissur, Kerala, to care for her beloved parents. During this period, her deep connection with nature blossomed, beginning with nurturing plants and establishing a small nursery at her home.
In November 2017, a heartfelt turning point came when a friend entrusted her with a cow—Gaumatha Lakshmi (affectionately called Lachuma). What began as a simple intention to keep a cow for natural fertilizers and companionship soon evolved into something far more meaningful.
Encouraged by her mother to care for a cow along with her calf for fresh milk, Kalyani’s bond with cows deepened, leading her to learn about the immense value and benefits of Indian indigenous breeds. This journey of love, learning, and devotion inspired her to welcome Gir cows as well. By December 2019, this humble beginning had grown into a nurturing sanctuary for 18 cows, all lovingly cared for at her home in Ayyanthole, Thrissur—laying the foundation for a lifelong mission of gauseva and compassion.

JOURNEY TILL HERE
The Gaushala’s journey involved multiple relocations due to the absence of an owned land. Each time a new location was developed and made functional, landowners later raised issues once the land’s value and usability improved, forcing the Gaushala to shift again.
These repeated moves caused significant financial and emotional loss. Despite the challenges, the number of cows and bulls was never reduced, as the core vision remained firm—to protect every animal for life. Rehoming them was not an option, as it risked exposing them to misuse or slaughter. This unwavering commitment to safeguarding indigenous cows, no matter the hardship, became the guiding force behind every decision and relocation.
